Research Associate on a project to publish ‘The Diary of Elias Bouhéreau’
Marsh’s Library wishes to appoint a Research Associate to prepare a transcription and translation of the diary of Elias Bouhéreau (1643-1719), the first Keeper of Marsh’s Library.
Bouhéreau was a Huguenot refugee, who served on diplomatic missions to the continent for the London regime during the 1690s. He came to Ireland as secretary to the Earl of Galway in 1697, and was subsequently appointed the first Keeper (librarian) of Marsh’s Library.
From the 1680s until his death in 1719 he kept a diary, which is a rich source for the political, social, cultural and intellectual history of the period.
Marsh’s Library wishes to appoint a Research Associate to prepare a transcription and translation of the diary, and offers a four-month contract to a suitably qualified candidate. The salary will be €30,000 per annum (pro rata).
Candidates must have the following skills and experience :
1. A Ph.D. in history, or a related discipline.
2. Fluent French and English
3. A knowledge of Huguenot history in an Irish context.
4. A demonstrable ability to produce high-quality transcriptions and translations to deadlines.
